Route 52, which runs between Reykjavík and Landeyjahöfn, will make 21 extra trips due to the „Þjóðhátíð“ – National Festival in Vestmannaeyjar on August 1 – August 5, 2023. 
All extra trips are according to Herjólf’s sailing schedule but they will only stop in Mjódd, Hveragerði, N1 Selfoss, Hella, Hvolsvöllur and Landeyjahöfn. 
Trips according to timetable stops at regular stops on route 52, also the trips with early departures, they are marked with an asterisk (*) in the tables.
You can pay the fare on board the bus by payment card or cash.

Due to construction work on Laugavegur, there will be detours on routes 2, 5, 14, 15, 17 and night route 104. This will apply from July 15 to July 29.
Laugavegur will be closed in both directions between the intersection of Nóatún and Laugavegur and Laugavegur 172 due to pipeline renewal.

Changes on routes 51 and 52 this summer

A new price list will take effect on July 1st. 
On July 1st, a new price list of Strætó will take effect. Prices for single tickets increases by 3.2% and period pass prices will increase by 3.85%. The price of Klapp plastic cards remains unchanged at 1.000 kr. 
The decision regarding the price is made by the board of Strætó. The price increases are intended to cover general cost price increases as well as higher labour costs and reduce the need for further cut down of the route network in the capital area.
 
Changes in price list for the countryside by Vegagerðin 
Vegagerðin (Icelandic Road Administration) has decided to raise its own prices at the same time as Strætó. In an announcement from Vegagerðin, the increase amounts to 5,3% and the single fare will go from 570 kr. to 600 kr. The price for period cards will remain unchanged. For example, a trip from Reykjavík to Akureyri goes from 12.540 kr. to 13.200 kr. and a trip from Reykjavík to Keflavík from 2.280 kr. to 2.400 kr.

Changes in price list at Strætó

Road 1 will be closed between the intersections to Hvalfjarðarvegur and Grundartangi tomorrow, June 26th from 21:00 to 06:30 on Thursday morning due to road constructions.
Route 57, which was supposed to depart from Akureyri at 16:20 tomorrow will be cancelled. 
Route 57, which was supposed to depart at 23:00 from Mjódd to Borgarnes will be cancelled.

As of June 25th 2024 routes 2, 12 and 14 will stop detouring through Sæbraut and will now drive through Hverfisgata towards the city center.
Construction work is completed on the stop Laugavegur, on the west side of Snorrabraut and the stop will therefore move from its temporary location at the intersection of Grettisgata to the future location at the intersection of Laugavegur.

Routes 2, 12 and 14 will no longer drive a detour

The following changes will be made to routes in Suðurnes.

Route 55:
The timetable will change significantly to keep better time schedule.

<li>Morning trips that depart today at 6:35 from Keflavík Airport and 6:34 from Hringbraut/Melteigur will be combined into one trip that departs from the airport at 6:20 and stops at Hringbraut/Melteigur at 6:28.</li>
<li>Trips that leave today at 7:57 and 8:25 from BSÍ will also be combined into one trip that leaves from BSÍ at 8:15, the next stop is Klambratún.</li>
<li>Route 55 stops driving around the center of Reykjavík from BSÍ &#8211; Ráðhús &#8211; BSÍ and does not drive further than BSÍ except for the first trip of the day on weekdays. Thus, it is only the first trip from Keflavík Airport at 6:20 which drives around the city center (with a stop at HÍ at 7:46).</li>
</ul>
Route 87:
<ul>
<li>Route 87 will run 8 trips a day on weekdays from Vogar to Miðstöð in Reykjanesbær with a stop at Vogaafleggjari. The route will also run 8 trips per day on weekdays from Miðstöð to Vogar with a stop at Vogaafleggjari. On Saturdays and Sundays there will be 2 trips in each direction.</li>
</ul>
Route 89:

<li>The time of some trips on route 89 will be changed to match better to trips that change at route 55 to/from Miðstöð.</li>

The reception of Strætó is closed but the Strætó call centre is open from 10:00 – 14:00.

Street closures will affect some routes in the center of Reykjavík and other municipalities.
Street closure will be in the center of Reykjavík from seven in the morning to seven in the evening. Then there will be disruptions in other municipalities between 10:15 and 15:00.
In Reykjavík, it will not be possible to drive through Lækjargata from Hverfisgata, Fríkirkjuvegur, Sóleyjargata, Bjarkargata, Skothúsavegur, and Vonarstræti from Tjarnargata between 07:00 and 19:00. 
In Hafnarfjörður, routes 1, 19 and 21 will take a detour due to a parade on Hringbraut and Lækjargata from 13:00 to 13:30. 
In Mosfellsbær, routes 7 and 15 will take detours due to a parade from 13:00 – 14:00.

Strætó´s schedule June 17th

Kópavogur, Strætó and the electric scooter rentals Hopp and Zolo have joined forces to encourage people to use environmentally friendly means of transport and at the same time improve the way electric scooters are dropped off in the town.
As of today, Wednesday, June 12, a discount is given on the rental of electric scooters if they are parked in defined areas by bus stops, the aim is to encourage users to park the electric scooters, so they are not in the way of pedestrians and drivers. The drop-off areas will be visible in the app of the electric scooter rentals.
Kópavogur is the first municipality to have these drop-off areas and the goal is to increase the number of such areas in the town so that they are also at swimming pools, sports facilities and other popular areas.
&#8222;It&#8217;s really nice that Kópavogur is the first municipality in Iceland to take these steps. With this, we encourage people to connect two environmentally friendly modes of transportation, the bus and electric scooters, and along the way we help ensure that electric scooters are not scattered around the town,&#8220; says Ásdís Kristjánsdóttir, mayor. 
Strætó and electric scooter rentals already have a good cooperation, as the location of electric scooters on the real time map is visible on
Strætó&#8217;s website and in Klappið. You can click on the relevant electric scooter on the map, and you can see which company the bike belongs to and what the charge is. If you click on the link, you will access the electric scooter in the relevant app, and then you can reserve it or rent it immediately.

Drop-off area for electric scooters at bus stops in Kópavogur

On Sunday, June 2nd, there will be major changes to the Strætó’s route system due to Reykjavík city´s construction at Hlemmur. The changes will affect the routes of the buses and all bus routes in the area will be temporarily diverted and new end stops will be put into use.
Strætó encourages passengers to look at Strætó&#8217;s information page, as routes may change during construction, but the page is regularly updated. There you can see the changes and also see a map of all routes.

Strætó schedule on May 1st

On the occasion of International Earth Day, which is held on April 22 each year, Krónan invites its customers to take a bus to the supermarket to reduce traffic by private car on the day and thus contribute to an environmentally friendly way of travel.
The Krónan&#8217;s initiative for Earth Day this year will be done in collaboration with Strætó bs., and everyone who shows up with a reusable shopping bag on a bus in the capital area will get a free ride on the bus April 22.
An ideal way to Krónan
&#8222;Earth Day has been celebrated annually for many years and is intended to remind us to take good care of our earth and environment and above all to encourage people to do their bit. There are many ways to take better care of our environment, including our means of transportation. In the capital area, there are a number of Krónan stores and they are all close to the bus stop. We thought it would be a good idea to collaborate with Strætó and jointly raise this issue, both by encouraging people to use more environmentally friendly means of transport and in the process reminding them to take reusable shopping bags with them,&#8220; says Guðrún Aðalsteinsdóttir, CEO of Krónan.
Working on energy exchange 
&#8222;We welcome this initiative by Krónan and of course encourage as many people as possible to use their reusable bag and get a free ride to the store with Strætó. At Strætó, we place great emphasis on energy saving and aim to replace diesel-powered buses with more environmentally friendly energy sources such as electric, hydrogen and methane-powered buses. Our goal is to have a carbon-free bus fleet by 2030,&#8220; says Markús Vilhjálmsson, head of sales, marketing and service at Strætó.

Krónan invites you on the bus

The annual meeting of Strætó will be held on Thursday, May 2. The meeting starts at 15:00 and will be in Borgir, Hábraut 1a, 200 Kópavogur.
The moderator is Jakob Birgisson, better known as the comedian Meistari Jakob. The main aspects of Strætó&#8217;s work from the year 2023 will be covered, together with the annual report, and there will also be presentations related to public transport. A more detailed program will be announced later.
Everyone is welcome to the meeting, and we especially encourage Strætó users that can to come to the meeting.
Light refreshments will be available.

It is no longer necessary to pre-order the first three trips of route 25 on weekdays, this route is between Spöngin and Gufunes in Grafarvogur.  Up until now, all trips on this route have been in pre-order service, but now the first three trips in the morning will not be, from Spöngin B at 6:52, 7:22 and 7:52.
You still need to pre-order trips at 8:22 and later 30 minutes in advance by calling 540 2740. All trips during weekends are also in pre-order service.

Changes on route 25

Route 93 will run an extra trip on Tuesdays in line with Smyril Line´s sailings. The extra trip will last until Tuesday, May 28, but on June 6, the extra trip will be moved to Thursdays in accordance with Smyril Line´s sailing schedule.

Strætó´s new electric buses started to drive this morning. These are nine buses of the type Yes-EU (CRRC 8m) and they come from China, like the older electric buses that Strætó has, which have served Strætó well. The heating system inside the buses will be fuelled by electricity and not oil. They are therefore very environmentally friendly and are a good addition to Strætó&#8217;s fleet and in accordance with Strætó&#8217;s strategy for a carbon-free fleet in 2030.
&#8222;The buses are a great addition to Strætó&#8217;s fleet and it&#8217;s a pleasure to see them start driving,&#8220; says Jóhannes S. Rúnarsson, CEO of Strætó. &#8222;With these new electric buses, more than 30% of Strætó&#8217;s fleet is now carbon-free, which is good for the environment, and Strætó aims to further increase its number of environmentally friendly buses in the coming years.&#8220;
The buses will drive routes 8, 22, 23 and 31, and for route 22 in Garðabær this means better access for people, as the electric buses are larger and more user-friendly than those that drove the route before. Charging stations have been set up both at Hestháls 14 and in Ásgarður in Garðabær, and the buses are charged at the end of or between runs.
Hrannar Bragi Eyjólfsson, board member of Strætó from Garðabær, says this is a very joyful phase. &#8222;With new electric buses, we will have improved access, for example for people who need to use wheelchair, strollers and bikes. We are very happy to be able to offer an environmentally friendly option in an environmentally friendly community.&#8220;

The year is certainly off to a good start for Strætó, more and more trips are being taken with Strætó, as public transport is an ecological and economical option. January and February had record number of boardings in the capital area, since regular measurements began. In January, there were more than 1.121.000 boardings, previously the highest number of boardings measured in January was last year, when they were 1.119.000. In February, there were almost 1.179.000 boardings measured, in February last year there were 1,069,000 boardings, which was the previous February record.
Last year was a true record year, as there have never been a greater number of boardings over the year in the capital area, or 12,64 million boardings.
We are very grateful for this good start and hope to see as many people as possible on the bus this year.

The bus stop on route 71 in Þorlákshöfn will be moved, and starting from Wednesday February 21st the stop will be at the town hall (ráðhús) instead of in front of the stores.

The city of Reykjavík is doing big changes at Hlemmur, and the area will change drastically in the coming years in accordance with the new regional planning for the area. The changes will affect the routes of the buses and all bus routes in the area will be temporarily diverted and new end stops will be put into use.
Construction on the square itself is to begin in the spring of 2024, and then Strætó will have to completely stop driving through the area.
In the future, there will be no route with an end stop via Hlemmur, but routes of Borgarlína will run through the square of Hlemmur. First, public bus routes will use the infrastructure of Borgarlína through the square. Bus routes will also run north/south via Snorrabraut.

Route system changes due to construction work at Hlemmur

The Icelandic Road and Coastal Administration (Vegagerðin) has decided to support the people of Grindvík in these unprecedented times, and offer young people aged 12-17 from Grindavík a free bus card that is valid for buses in the countryside. The cards are intended for young people who need to access services or recreation in the capital area or in Southern peninsula and will be valid for Southern peninsula, South Iceland or West Iceland.
It is possible to apply for the bus card as of today at straeto.is under the<a href="/en/store/countryside"> store for the countryside</a> The rural cards are not part of Klappið and are physical cards. It is therefore necessary to include a photograph of the person when applying for a card.
The cards can be sent by post or picked up at the office of Strætó bs. at Hestháls 14 or at the service center for people of Grindavík in Tollhúsið, Tryggvagata 19.

Vegagerðin offers youths from Grindavík a free bus card in the countryside

Due to the construction work on Grensásvegur, there will be detours on routes 2, 14, 15 and 17 from Hlemmur. No detours to Hlemmur. Construction is expected to last from January 29 to May 31. A notification will appear under Route alerts and in the Klappið when detours start.
From Hlemmur routes 2 and 17 will drive Vegmúli and Ármúli instead of Suðurlandsbraut and Grensásvegur.
Inactive bus stops: Laugardalshöll and Laugardalur.
A bus stop in Ármúli has been added on these routes.

Strætó offers 12-17 years olds from Grindavík to get a free bus card that is valid in the capital area.
It is really nice to be able to support the people of Grindavík at these unprecedented times, says Jóhannes S. Rúnarsson, CEO of Strætó, this decision was taken by the board of Strætó this morning and the implementation of this will be in consultation with Grindavík.
It will be possible to apply for the bus card at straeto.is from Monday January 22nd, and the pass will be added to the Klapp app or Klapp card.
It is necessary to have a phone number connected to their Klappið app or have a Klapp card connected to their access on „My pages“.
For those who want to use a Klapp card can get one in the service center for people of Grindavík in Tollhúsið, Tryggvagata 19.

From Friday, January 19th, route 24 will drive through Dvergshöfði instead of Stórhöfði due to construction. The bus stops at Stórhöfði: Stórhöfði, Svarthöfði og Breiðhöfði will therefore be inactive and two new bus stops will be at Dvergshöfði: Funahöfði and Smiðshöfði.

Changes on route 24

The year 2023 had a record number of boardings in the capital area since regular measurements began. Throughout the year there were approx. 12.64 million boardings, but the year 2019 hold the previous record with 12.18 boardings.
There were also some record months during the year, but in total there were six months during the year with the highest number of boardings recorded in that particular month, these were January, March, April, June, November, and December. In addition, March 2023 was a double record month with the highest number of boardings measured in any month since regular measurements began.
