Starting August 17, 2025, Strætó will significantly increase its service in the capital area. This increase is part of the Transport Agreement and Strætó’s operational plan, and a step toward the New Network set to be implemented in 2031.
More Service, Better Frequency, Longer Operating Hours – More People Using Strætó
- The proportion of residents living within 400 meters of a stop with 10-minute frequency during peak hours will increase from about 18% to over 50%.
- Service will be increased, taking into account route usage, demand, and the impact of Borgarlína construction.
Main Changes
- Increased frequency during peak hours:
- Routes 3, 5, 6, and 12: from 15 minutes to 10 minutes
- Routes 19, 21, and 24: from 30 minutes to 15 minutes
- Off peak hours:
- Routes 3, 5, 12, and 15: from 30 minutes to 15 minutes
- Extended evening service on fourteen routes: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 11, 12, 15, 18, 19 and 21
- Timetable adjustments on several routes (including 2 and 5)
- Buses will not wait for connections with other buses in Ártún during peak hours due to increased frequency
Other Changes:
- Route 4 will change its route – it will now run via Kringlumýrarbraut due to a new priority bus lane and will no longer travel via Miklabraut and Háaleitisbraut.
New route:
The green line shows the route as it is before the changes and the stops that will be removed are marked with an x. The blue line shows the new route, and a new stop will be added: Álftamýri.
- Routes 22 and 23 will no longer operate as pre-order services during evenings and weekends but will instead run according to a schedule. Both routes will run every 30 minutes on weekdays and weekends.
- The last trip on route 22 will be at 22:14.
- The last trip on route 23 will be at 22:17.
- Route 25 will be split into two segments:
- Spöngin – Gufunes
