The closure of the Hvalfjörður Tunnel will affect the operation of two rural bus routes, routes 50 and 59. The tunnel will be closed from 7 April to 29 May between 21:30 and 06:00. The closure is due to lighting upgrades in the tunnel. Work takes place from Sunday to Friday, meaning services on Fridays and Saturdays are not affected.
Route 59
On Sundays, departures on route 59 will be brought forward by 10 minutes.
The trip from Borgarnes to Hólmavík will depart at 14:50 instead of 15:00.
The trip from Hólmavík to Borgarnes will depart at 17:03 instead of 17:13.
Passengers travelling onwards to the capital area from this trip will transfer to route 57 instead of Route 50. Route 57 departs from Borgarnes at 19:30.
Route 50
The last trips of the day on route 50 will be cancelled on Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Thursdays and Sundays due to the tunnel closure.
