KEF-Airport bus stop location

Passengers that take bus 55 from capital area to KEF-Airport are dropped off at the terminal entrance.
Arrivals that are traveling from KEF-Airport to the capital area use a Strætó bus stop on the Bus B – Pick up area. It is located on the arrivals side to the terminal. See location of the bus stop below:

Bus to/from KEF-Airport

Significant improvements have been made to access and facilities for regional buses serving Keflavík Airport, making it easier for passengers and airport staff to access the terminal.
New bus stops have been established at two locations, signage has been improved, and the walkway from the terminal to the buses for arriving passengers is now covered. Following these changes, there will be three bus stops at the terminal, compared to just one today.
The changes affect route 55, which operates between BSÍ and/or Fjörður and Keflavík Airport, and route 89, which operates between Reykjanesbær/Suðurnesjabær and Keflavík Airport. The new arrangements will take effect on Thursday, 1 October.
Route 55 – Main changes
<ul>
<li>New bus stop for departing passengers (KEF Departures). A new bus stop will be introduced on the departure side of the terminal for passengers travelling to the airport. Route 55 will now drive directly to the terminal, dropping off passengers at the same location as airport shuttle buses. Passengers will not be able to board buses at this stop.</li>
<li>New bus stop for arriving passengers (KEF Arrivals). A new bus stop will be introduced on the arrivals side of the terminal in a designated area. The walkway from the terminal to the bus stop is now covered, providing shelter from the weather for arriving passengers.</li>
<li>Improved signage. All signage inside the terminal and outside, including at bus stops and along walkways, have been improved and replaced.</li>
<li>Easier bicycle transport. Bicycles can be brought on board route 55 on selected departures (five out of twelve daily departures).</li>
<li>Payment options. Passengers can pay with either cash or contactless payment cards.</li>
<li>Special fares. Bus passes for regional buses are available for purchase.</li>
</ul>
Apart from these changes, route 55 will operate as usual, with no changes to departure times or the timetable along the route.
Kjóavellir – New name for route 89 bus stop
The route and timetable for route 89, which operates between Reykjanesbær, Suðurnesjabær and Keflavík Airport, will remain unchanged.
The bus stop used by route 89 will be renamed Kjóavellir (previously called KEF-Airport). The bus stop will remain in the same location, but improvements to the facilities are planned.

From 1 October, there will be changes to the timetables for routes 72, 73 and 94.
Route 72
The timetable has been adjusted, and departure times at stops along the route will change. Departure times from Selfoss will remain unchanged.

Route 73
&#8211; The 16:02 trip will operate from Monday to Thursday only and will no longer operate on Fridays.
&#8211; On Fridays, the departure from N1 Selfoss will move from 11:49 to 13:50.
&#8211; On Sundays, the trip will depart three minutes later to better align with other routes. The new departure time from N1 Selfoss is 16:26.
&#8211; The Saturday trip will no longer operate.

Route 94
The timetable has been changed in line with the updated flight schedule. In addition, the bus will only operate between Höfn and Djúpivogur and will no longer drive to Breiðdalsvík.

On Tuesday 22 September, Strætó buses in the Capital Area will be free of charge to celebrate Car-Free Day. 
Car-Free Day marks the end of European Mobility Week, which began on 16 September. Car-Free Day 2026 – Free buses on 22 September

Strætó’s NaviLens project, which makes public transport more accessible for blind and visually impaired people and others through specially designed codes at bus stops, received the 2026 ITS Award at the Transport Conference held yesterday, September 16th.
The jury highlighted that the solution uses smart technology and real-time information to enhance the independence of blind and visually impaired people and make public transport more accessible to everyone.
Using NaviLens codes, blind and visually impaired passengers can independently access information about Strætó routes and arrival times. Through the NaviLens app, the information is read aloud, allowing users to access real-time information about bus services without assistance from others.
However, the solution is not only useful for blind and visually impaired people. It can also make information more accessible to sighted passengers, tourists, people who do not speak Icelandic and people with reading difficulties. The project demonstrates how effective accessibility solutions can benefit a wide range of passengers and contribute to more equal access to public transport.
Collaboration for better accessibility
The project is a collaboration between the Icelandic Organization of the Visually Impaired (Blindrafélagið) and Strætó. Strætó leads the project, and the NaviLens codes are owned and maintained by Strætó.
The City of Reykjavík has supported the project from the beginning, both in its planning and implementation. City staff have been responsible for installing the codes at bus shelters and poles throughout the city. Síminn/Billboard has also supported the project by installing NaviLens codes at all bus shelters under its management.
The award is therefore also recognition of the important collaboration between these partners in making information and public transport more accessible to everyone.

European Mobility Week begins tomorrow 16 September and runs until 22 September.
Mobility Week aims to encourage people to use diverse modes of transport that are sustainable, economical, and beneficial to health. This year´s theme is Mobility for everyone – intergenerational fairness.
In the Capital Area, the week kicks off with the Transport Conference organised by ITS Iceland. It concludes with the Car-Free Day where Strætó in the Capital area will be free of charge.
People are encouraged to utilise diverse transport modes throughout the week. Further information can be found at

Mobility Week – Take Part!

Route 66 has now been added to the regional bus network. The route drive through Patreksfjörður, Tálknafjörður and Bíldudalur, and continues to Bíldudalur Airport. The route starts to operate September 1st.
Route 66 operates in accordance with Norlandair’s published flight schedule at Bíldudalur Airport. The route does not operate for additional Norlandair flights that are outside the published flight schedule.
The bus follows the timetable, but times may change if Norlandair’s flight schedule changes, for example due to winter weather and road conditions. Passengers are advised to check the flight schedule if weather or road conditions are poor.
